OpenDNS: Content Filtering at the Network Level

06.17.10

There are quite a few options out there for web content filtering, and ultimately your individual needs will dictate which option will serve you best.  However, we have found that OpenDNS’s content filtering functionality is often a viable option for a broad spectrum of both home and business users.

Overview:  Content Filtering at the Network Level

OpenDNS works at the network level, meaning that the content filtering options you choose will be applied to all computers connected to your home or business network.  This method is especially attractive considering that many content filtering programs apply only to individual machines and thus increase your cost and maintenance needs if you have multiple computers on your network.  And the content-filtering options OpenDNS provides are both robust and flexible; their user-friendly online control center allows you to choose between broad levels of content filtering, select certain categories of websites you’d like to block, and even specify certain domains that you’d like to always block or always allow.

Free Basic Services

And the best part?  OpenDNS’s basic services are free, and their expanded services are priced very competitively.  We use OpenDNS ourselves and have implemented it with several of our clients, so we can confidently recommend it.  If you are interested in implementing OpenDNS in your home or business, feel free to give us a call, and we can give you more detailed information and help you integrate this service into your existing technology systems.
