The Problem of Long URLs

Have you ever wanted to give someone a link to a particular page on your website?  If you have, odds are trying to spell out the long URL for that page was at the very least annoying if not traumatic, reminding you of that day in high school when your pre-calculus teacher wrote a particularly evil equation on the overhead projector with a smudgy marker.

And even if you get out of speaking URL gibberish to someone verbally by sending them a link in an email, odds are you thought to yourself, “Classic marketing common sense tells me it’s better to give this person a chance at remembering this URL.”  And you would have been right.

Virtual Redirects:  Our Solution

If you’re using 3n1media’s CMS to manage your website, the good news is that there’s a quick and easy way to custom-make a short, coherent, and easy-to-remember URL for any page on your website.  We call these URLs virtual redirects.

Here’s how it works:  First, virtual redirects will have to be enabled for your website.  Contact us, and we can quickly get this set up for you in under your 1 hour of web support per month.  Secondly, once the functionality is set up, all you have to do is paste the long, ugly URL you want shortened in a virtual redirect item within the CMS, choose a word or phrase to appear after your general site URL, and you’re done.  You’ll end up with a URL that has your chosen word or phrase after your URL and a forward slash.  It’ll look like this:  http://www.yourdomain.com/yourphrase.

The idea is to allow you the ability to use any page on your website as an easily-accessible source for your audience.  As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
