The Palm Pre's New Year's Day Exchange Syncing Bug

01.04.10
Happy New Year, everyone.  For all you Palm Pre users out there, we have an important update on an issue with the device's Exchange calendar syncing function.  Read on to find out what has happened and what to do about it.

The Issue

Apparently, the Pre's 1.3.5 webOS upgrade, which came out last week, included a bug that hid all Microsoft Exchange calendar data when the date changed to January 1, 2010.  Now, this does not mean that your Exchange data has been lost; it is perfectly safe on the server.  This bug only affects your Pre's access to the data.

The Workaround

While we are confident that Palm will straighten this issue out, there is a temporary workaround which allows you to access your Exchange data now.  According to www.precentral.net, a great source for info on the Pre, you can get your Pre to sync with Exchange normally by following these steps:
  1. Go to Date & Time.
  2. Turn off Network Time.
  3. Manually reset the calendar to December 31, 2009.
  4. Check your calendar to make sure your Exchange data is present.
  5. Go back to Date & Time, and enter the correct date.
Note that you will have to go through these steps again if you have to reset your Pre for any reason.  We have tried this workaround ourselves and have found it to work just fine.
