Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are all the rage in online marketing these days. And it makes sense; why wouldn’t you want to take advantage of a free and easy method of reaching people with your brand and driving traffic to your website? So we wanted to come up with a way that users of our website content management system (CMS) could update their social networking profiles seamlessly and instantly with content from their websites.
Well, after months of hard work, we are excited to introduce SocialConnect, an application of our new and improved CMS, which will be available to our web clients within the next month. SocialConnect allows users to seamlessly update social networking profiles with links to ther websites' content directly from the CMS.
Here’s how it works:
Say you just posted a new blog entry to your website. You think to yourself, “I bet I could get more traffic if I could link visitors to my blog page from Facebook and Twitter.” So, before you even navigate away from the blog entry’s detail page in the CMS, you click on a button labeled Social, and the window displayed above appears.
First of all, you decide you want to post a short teaser to get people interested in your blog post, so you type that up in the To Post field. Secondly, you want to include a link to the blog page, so you click the Insert Link button, which adds a link to the To Post field. “But what happens if the link’s long URL puts me over my character limit for my status update?” you may ask. No problem; all you have to do is click the Make Tiny button, which will shorten your link’s URL, giving you more space for your description text. You then select both Facebook Status and Twitter and click Post Item to instantaneously update both accounts, giving your blog page immediate visibility to your Facebook friends and Twitter followers.
And SocialConnect is not limited to blog entries; you can use it to update your social media with links to any of your website's pages, including those containing store items, news articles, tour dates, etc.
